Starting Friday night and continuing until next Tuesday, you won't be able to drive across the Bay Bridge. Caltrans is launching an ambitious project to replace the viaduct on Yerba Buena Island.
How are you planning to cope with this potential traffic mess? KRON 4 is setting up this site to let you share your experiences about the Bay Bridge shutdown, to offer advice to others about alternate routes or public transit options.
We look forward to hearing from you.

This up coming weekends bridge closure is going to be a mess, leaving the alternate routes either Golden Gate, San Mateo & Dumbarton Bridges a mess. With the ongoing traffic problems already on southbound 101 on the peninsula will create a possible backup past SFO into SF on 101. Be prepared.
I live right next to the Bay Bridge. This historic closure is going to mean a weekend of peace and quiet - I always wish caltrans would install a sound barrier - but don't see that happening any time soon.
Take BART! Take BART! The more you ride it the more trains they will run. Save $$ and headaches and plan to enjoy the city (if you are coming in) on foot and by public transit. www.nextmuni.com
So the bridge is closed for the major construction. It would be interesting to find out what else is happening to the closed areas. Painting toll booths? Picking up garbage, patching holes and painting hard to get places where safety is an issue. What else is being done to take advantage of this time? People would be interested in knowing.
If you plan to drive visitors around the bay by using the other bridges, remember that CLOCKWISE IS CHEAPER than counterclockwise.
HSM: Hayward/San Mateo Bridge
RSR: Richmond/San Rafael Bridge
GG: Golden Gate Bridge.
CLOCKWISE around the bay:
HSM + GG + RSR = $4 TOTAL
COUNTERCLOCKWISE around the bay:
RSR + GG + HSM = $9 TOTAL
Hope this makes sense to y'all..
:-)

Wow, the bottleneck traffic from 19th ave, and Marina area to Golden Gate Bridge is terrible. From tourists and local residents, Bumper to bumper nightmare this Sunday Sept 2nd afternoon. It seems worse than last year's partial closure of the Bay bridge 2006 Labor Day. Save a headache, avoid crossing the Golden Gate Bridge until after peak hours. Maybe 9:00pm or later.
